The reason you may not have heard of Hyperoptic, despite operating as a broadband provider in the UK since 2011, is that it operates its very own network. That means all its cables and cabinets are 100% Hyperoptic. This means two things: First, Hyperoptic is able to offer very fast speeds due to its pure fibre network, but also; Hyperoptic is only available to a vanishingly small percentage of UK homes. But if you can get it, chances are you already know and that's why you're here. Because right now, Hyperoptic is offering free broadband for three months on its faster packages.
Hyperoptic offers four discreet speed tiers, but its offer of three months free is not extended to all of them at the time of writing. No, rather you're going to have to opt for both its longer, 24 month contract, and for its fastest two speeds, either 500Mb (which offers 522Mbps download speed), or 1Gb (which offers 900Mbps download speed).
Here's an overview of those two deals:
Before you get too exciting, you need to know your chances of getting Hyperoptic if you haven't already had a leaflet in your inbox to let you know you can are extremely slim. By the beginning of 2022, Hyperoptic had reached 750,000 UK homes (of an estimated 27 million). However, take-up has been high in the areas Hyperoptic does reach.
Perhaps the most unusual feature of Hyperoptic broadband is that unlike every other provider you'd care to mention, its upload speeds are the same as its download speeds. This is sometimes referred to as a 'symmetrical connection'. Typically upload speeds from broadband providers are a fraction of the download speeds, and this is simply because tasks involving uploads (sending information from your device to somewhere else on the internet), are far less common than tasks involving downloads (pulling date viat the internet to your device to, for example, stream a movie). Here's a quick look at situations where a lot of upload speed may prove useful:
This particular offer – free broadband for three months – can come with a phone line if you so desire. However, if you don't select one you won't get one.
For a couple of extra quid a month, Hyperoptic will provide you with a phone line that comes with inclusive everning and weekend calls to UK mobiles and landlines.
The Nokia Hyperhub, provided with Hyperoptic's 500Mb and 1Gb packages ( the packages in this offer), is a very capable router. It has to be. Routing speeds like that around your house is no mean feat, and luckily the Nokia Hyperhub is up to the task. Here are the specs:
