With these changes, Sky has form in this area, renaming its product range at the drop of a hat while introducing brand new packages into the mix. We see you, Sky. This blog then, will cover what's changed, how it's changed, and why.

Sky Broadband package changes: a snapshot

Here’s a quick look at Sky’s updated broadband packages, showing the key differences in package names, speeds and pricing:

(only FTTP)
75Mbps £26 per month
Sky Broadband Ultrafast 145Mbps £29 per month Full Fibre 150 145Mbps £27 per month

Sky Broadband Gigafast 900Mbps £44 per month Full Fibre Gigafast 900Mbps £43 per month

Why has Sky changed its packages?

Sky regularly updates its broadband offerings to stay competitive in a crowded market. Over time, Sky has evolved its package names, now moving away from generic terms like 'ultrafast' to more descriptive names that reflect the tech (Full Fibre) and speeds on offer.

These changes actually fall into line with a lot of other broadband providers. For example, BT, TalkTalk, Plusnet and others already use the 'Full Fibre XXX' naming convention. Sky's new and renamed packages reflect this, aiming to make the differences between speeds and services clearer to potential customers.

Sky Superfast is only available to some

Sky's long running Superfast package remains available to users who aren't yet able to access Sky's new Full Fibre packages. It offers average speeds of up to 61Mbps at £26 per month. Again, this remains perfectly adequate for medium sized households who don't make very heavy demands on their connection, and is fine for day-to-day streaming and browsing.

While we can't be certain, we expect users who have commited to this package will be offered the option to upgrade to a faster Full Fibre package once they're available in their area. Although this will probably come at an addtional cost and require you to recommit to a new contract.

  • Average speed: 61Mbps
  • Contract: 24 months
  • Price: £26 per month, with no activation cost
  • Credit check fee: £5 (refunded to your first bill for new customers)

Sky Full Fibre 75 is a brand new package

Sky Full Fibre 75 is a completely new package, offering speeds of up to 75Mbps at £26 per month. This package provides a balanced option for households that require more speed than Superfast but do not need really high-end speeds. Indeed, for many households in FTTP enabled areas, this will now be the slowest speed Sky can offer.

  • Average speed: 75Mbps
  • Contract: 24 months
  • Price: £26 per month, with no activation cost
  • Credit check fee: £5 (refunded to your first bill for new customers)

Sky Broadband Ultrafast becomes Sky Full Fibre 150

Previously known as Sky Broadband Ultrafast, this package now offers slightly faster speeds at 145Mbps while also seeing a small price reduction from £29 to £27 per month per month at the time of writing. It’s ideal for larger households or those with higher demands, including 4K streaming, gaming, and heavy file downloading.

  • Average speed: 145Mbps
  • Contract: 24 months
  • Price: £27 per month, with no activation cost
  • Credit check fee: £5 (refunded to your first bill for new customers)

Sky Broadband Ultrafast Plus becomes Sky Full Fibre 500

Formerly known as Sky Broadband Ultrafast Plus, this package continues to offer average speeds of 500Mbps. Sky Full Fibre 500 is perfect for homes where multiple high-demand devices are in use simultaneously, such as smart TVs, games consoles, and computers. This package also includes Sky’s Speed Guarantee, ensuring customers receive at least 400Mbps or they get their money back.

  • Average speed: 500Mbps
  • Contract: 24 months
  • Price: £33 per month, with no activation cost
  • Credit check fee: £5 (refunded to your first bill for new customers)
  • Speed Guarantee: 400Mbps minimum or money back

Sky Broadband Gigafast becomes Sky Full Fibre Gigafast

Previously branded as Sky Broadband Gigafast, this package offers Sky's fastest average speed of 900Mbps. Sky Full Fibre Gigafast is tailored to households with very high demands. At 900Mbps this package is perfect for large homes with multiple users streaming in 4K, downloading large files, or engaging in online gaming simultaneously. It also suits smart homes with many connected devices.

  • Average speed: 900Mbps
  • Contract: 24 months
  • Price: £43 per month, with no activation cost
  • Credit check fee: £5 (refunded to your first bill for new customers)
  • Sky's top speed: 25x faster than Sky’s standard fibre

Frequently asked questions

Why did Sky rename its broadband packages?

Sky renamed its packages to simplify its offerings and reflect the shift towards Full Fibre technology. The updated names like 'Full Fibre' replace older terms like 'Ultrafast' to make it clearer that Full Fibre powers those packages.

What’s different about Sky Full Fibre 75 compared to previous packages?

Sky Full Fibre 75 is a brand new addition to Sky's lineup, offering average speeds of 75Mbps. It bridges the gap between entry-level and FTTC fibre packages and faster, more expensive Full Fibre speeds. We think this makes it ideal for households with moderate internet usage, like HD streaming and video calls, but who would like to take advantage of the increased reliability and lower latency of Full Fibre.

How does Sky Full Fibre 500 compare to the old Sky Broadband Ultrafast Plus?

Sky Full Fibre 500 replaces Sky Broadband Ultrafast Plus. It offers the same 500Mbps speeds and includes Sky's Speed Guarantee, promising a minimum download speed of 400Mbps or your money back. The rebranding better highlights its Full Fibre status.

Who is Sky Full Fibre Gigafast aimed at, and what’s new?

Sky Full Fibre Gigafast, previously known as Sky Broadband Gigafast, targets heavy internet users, large families/households, and gamers. Offering 900Mbps, it suits gaming and/or home-working households that stream in 4K and download large files. The rebranding clarifies it as a Full Fibre package.

What is Sky Wi-Fi Max, and how does it improve my broadband?

Sky Wi-Fi Max ensures reliable Wi-Fi coverage in every room of your home. It eliminates weak signals and dead zones using additional boosters and an upgraded Wi-Fi 6 router, making it ideal for larger properties or households with many devices. Wi-Fi Max helps you get the most out of your broadband, no matter where you are in your home.
