Sky is one of the UK's biggest players when it comes to broadband and TV, and that's not something they've achieved by just offering the lowest prices. They operate as a premium provider, and, on their day, have some of the best equipment and customer services in the business.
So, if simple low prices aren't Sky's way of attracting new customers, what is? It's the fact that when it comes to offering potential new customers that little bit extra as an enticement, they're one of the most generous providers out there. So if you time your switch right, you could make a great saving, get one of their excellent gift card offers, or both. But you do have to keep an eye out, as prices and offers can change every week – particularly on their broadband only deals.
So, let's take a look at Sky's current batch of tempting rewards:
New this week is a big fat £100 gift card offered with Sky's 900Mbps Gigafast broadband, at a monthly fee of £43 per month over a 24 month contract. That's the quickest broadband Sky currently offers, and it's increasingly available all over the UK. It's blisteringly fast – Sky claims most users can download an average length HD movie in just 13 seconds – and, unlike many full fibre packages from other providers, comes with pay-as-you-go calls as standard. Try our postcode availability checker to see if the offer is available where you live.
Sky's second fastest broadband speed comes in the form of the 500Mbps Ultrafast Plus, which this week is offered at per month, on a 24 month contract with the added temptation of a £80 gift card to spend as you wish. That may be only a little over half the speeds offered by the Gigafast package, but in the real world, it's going to be more than adequate no matter how big your household. Again, it's offered with pay-as-you-go calls.
Ok, so 75Mbps doesn't sound so quick. And as of September 2024, it's now the slowest package Sky will offer users in many areas. It's certainly not fast in comparison to the two Sky packages we've focussed on above. But, if you're not someone who really needs those kinds of speeds (and to be honest, that's still most people), then, at £26 per month per month on the standard 24 month Sky contract, it's a pretty good option. And with this week's £70 gift card, we'd say it's one seriously worth considering. One thing though – if you're not in an area able to access FTTP broadband, you'll only be able to get Sky's Broadband Superfast, which is just a little slower at 61Mbps, and usually priced similarly.
Cable.co.uk's broadband postcode checker will find you the best deals, providers and speeds where you live. It's free and takes less than a minute to check and compare.
There are a few pitfalls to be aware of when dealing with gift cards issued with broadband packages. The main thing to be aware of is that it's not going to arrive instantly. It usually takes a while and that could be up to 120 days – and even that is after the installation date, not the day you place your order. So it can be a good idea to just forget about it and then get a nice surprise a few months down the line. And, perhaps not unfairly, if you cancel the order you gift card will be cancelled too. Sky will send you instructions of exactly how to claim your reward when you make the purchase.
Another thing to bear in mind is that there's an obligation on the customer to actually claim the reward. It won't just take care of itself. So remember, if you want to take advantage of these kinds of offers, you have to jump through a few, very tiny, hoops. Because of this, a lot of people forget to claim, so try to make sure that's not you as it's virtually free money!
Just a word on that too – it's not actual money. It'll be a pre-loaded card which you can spend at various outlets. For example, it could be Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury's, Tesco or even Amazon. An exception to this is a pre-paid Mastercard – you can use that almost anywhere, but you have to try and make sure you don't leave much credit on it unspent.
Sky is only one of many providers that, on occasion offer rewards. They can be gift cards of course, but are also often cashback and sometimes bill credit offers.
